Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be able to demonstrate initiative, have good verbal and written communication skills.
Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
The Victim Advocate must answer telephone calls, be proficient in Microsoft Office, and be able to utilize other program-specific computer programs for the domestic violence programs.
The service area is Fayette and Clinton Counties.
Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel within the service area.
This position requires a valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
Job
Responsibilities:
The Victim Advocate works out of the SWAN Vandalia Office.
The position is full-time, 40 hours per week.
The Victim Advocate assists victims/survivors of domestic violence through the civil and criminal justice process, provides information regarding legal remedies, the Illinois Domestic Violence Act, shelter services, crime witness information and other SWAN services.
The Victim Advocate assists victims with efforts to obtain emergency orders of protection, plenary orders of protection and filing criminal complaints.
Victim Advocates provide follow-up supportive services and safety planning.
The Vandalia Office is busy, and handles calls about domestic violence, adult protective services, and information and assistance about Medicare and other senior services.
The Victim Advocate works closely with the Adult Protective Services Caseworker and Information and Assistance Specialist.
Background checks are required.
All SWAN employees complete 40 hours of Domestic Violence training (20 hours will be On-Site in Olney).

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
